Above: Canandaigua Middle School’s US FIRST LEGO Team – ready to compete! Lego Robotics is a Research and Technical Design Competition where students research problems on the annual theme from US FIRST LEGO League (FLL). The Fall 2013 competition task was “Nature’s fury” and the team designed a car kit to help drivers’ stay safely inside if they were to get into a car accident or run out of gas during the winter. Some of the many things that they had in the car kit were a blanket, flashlight with extra batteries, gloves and a de-icer. There are three parts to FLL robotics: the research project, robot design and programming (below), and FLL Core Values.
Wayne Central School District’s Ontario Elementary School US FIRST LEGO team (pictured below) took home the trophy for Core Values! This trophy recognizes teams who best exhibited the core values of the US FIRST LEGO experience: teamwork, gracious professionalism, sportsmanship, cooperation, and encouragement. Said Kathy Uerz, team coach: ” I was very proud of them for this, to me it means the most that they worked so well as a team.”
